Valentine's Crafting: Part 2

Wednesday, February 11, 2015

Hello Friends!

Here is my second installment of the Valentine's crafting sessions I had with my two boys. I shared the dinosaur photo Valentine's card I made for my oldest in my last post. Today I will share the Valentine's rings I made with my youngest. Though truth be told I made while he ate the chocolates!

I had planned to simply adhere a chocolate heart to paper with a simple printed card that said something like, Happy Heart Day Valentine! but I promptly let go of that idea (and quickly proceeded to eat the chocolate hearts) when I saw this fantastic post from Willowday!

I went to my local craft store after my morning workout to get some silver metallic pipe cleaners (I may or may not have planned the workout around the store hours).  :-o

These were a hit!  I'll be attaching a simple label as Willowday suggests and calling it a day. Easy and fun. My youngest absolutely loved "helping" me make these and was willing to sit for me so I could snap these photos.

If you like kid friendly (not to mention pocket book friendly) craft activities, check out Willowday. She has so many fun and totally do-able activities that are both simple and creative and just plain fun to make with the little ones.

Thanks for stopping by. I wish you all a most joyous Valentine's full of laughter, peace, and, of course, love!

Until next time.

Valentine's Crafting: Part 1

Hello Friends!

It never fails. I wait to the last moment to tackle a project that needed to be finished a month ago. I mull over the project for so long that I tell myself I have worked out all the kinks and have tweaked it to perfection... in my head. It makes sense, right?  This way by the time I actually get to the doing the project gets completed in less than half the time!  Yep, you know what follows: a last minute run to the craft store, a manic internet search for creative last minute (insert project here) that consists of three items or less that I may or may not have lying around the house. The late night crafting usually leads to four hours of sleep and a very cranky mom.

I decided this year would be different. Never mind that the Christmas tree just got taken down last weekend.  :-o   Never mind that I just recently delivered a Christmas gift.  Sorry Ladies!  Never mind that there is one gift that still hasn't found it's way to the Post Office.  Sorry Kamila! Soon I promise!!!  -sigh-   I just gave you a glimpse of my creative process that involves a lot of procrastination and a bit of hysteria.  So you can see how this year has to be different, right? Right!

With that goal in mind, I took my oldest out for a mini Valentine's photo shoot in front of an old plane hangar out in Alameda last weekend. It took 10 minutes to shoot and a bribe consisting of candy.  Hey, don't judge me!  ;-)

This was the easiest Valentine's card I have ever made. It took approximately 2 1/2 hours from the time I shot the photo to the time I ordered the cards. Less than a week later I had the cards in my mail box. Of course, logic dictates that I must have a quick mini photo shoot with A holding the card!  ;-)  The best part? No last minute manic run to the craft store followed by late night crafting. Whew!

A's only request was that there be no pink or red with the exception of the heart. As he said, he is a boy after all! ;-)

For those interested, this is a variant of the much seen Valentine's lollipop photo on Pinterest. A good example of one is from The Fab Housewife. Another source of inspiration was this card I also found on Pinterest from To The Stars And Back. These two ideas somehow made sense in my head and this is the result. Quick and easy!

As you can see he thought being in front of a camera required that he contort his face into all possible expressions. It made it more fun for him knowing that his facial contortions were freaking his little brother who was standing to right (out of camera range). I just went with it. It was his photo shoot after all. :-)

I'll have another Valentine's post with my youngest soon so make sure to check in later this week for that post.

As always, thanks for stopping by and happy Valentine's crafting to you!
